Cleaners you can trust when leaving your flat for a cleaning

What to consider before hiring a maid

Always run a background check, ensure to check exactly who it is that you’re hiring. Make sure that they have qualifications in all types of cleaning and can provide proof of their training in using different cleaning products on multiple types of surfaces. A well trusted and qualified cleaner will be able to provide photos of their previous work. Also make sure that the maid has insurance, you need to be assured that if any  damages from their cleaning is fully covered by their insurance. Lastly, know their rates, be clear on the prices for the cleaning service your booking and be certain to ask if there is any chance for hidden costs. The last thing you want is for the cleaning to have been complete and then the price have gone up for some reason, most cleaners will contact you during the clean if there is an increase in price for any reason to confirm you are happy for them to continue with the clean.

Advantages of leaving the house when the maid comes

There are many advantages to leaving the property when the maid is cleaning. Firstly you can leave and get on with your day, you are not tied to being home so any plans you have do not need to be moved or changed. This allows your focus to be elsewhere instead of waiting and worrying about the things you could be getting done. When the maid is left we find that 9 times out of 10 they will clean faster and more efficiently when they don’t have you home waiting for them to finish, It also gives them space to get the cleaning done without you being in the way and making for awkward conversation if they need you to leave a room so they can complete the clean.

Disadvantages to leaving the house when the maid comes

There are unfortunately some disadvantages to leaving the property when the maid comes to clean, this includes not being able to check up on the work as they are completing it. If you are home during the clean it allows you to check the cleaning as they complete it raising any concerns while the maid is still there. Secondly This will eliminate any miscommunications also, ensuring that the maid knows what is to be cleaned and what is not to be cleaned. If you were to leave the maid may end up cleaning rooms that were not originally agreed thus resulting in additional charges. Thirdly leaving the property means that you will not have the opportunity to get to know the maid and this means that you will not build a bond with them, this can be useful for recurring maids as they will learn how you like the cleaning to be complete and you would then also be able to build a friendship with trust ensuring that you and the maid feel completely comfortable with each other.

Building trust with your maid

It’s very important to build trust with your maid, the best way to achieve this is to be clear of your expectations. This sends a clear understanding of the level of service you expect to receive and will eliminate any disappointment once the clean has been completed. Always be respectful, show the same level of respect that you would expect from them, although you are paying them for a service it’s always best to be kind. Lastly, always give feedback good and bad as the bad is what helps them to improve in their service. A true professional will always welcome all feedback and welcome feedback that can help them become better at their job.

Choosing the best maid service

When choosing a maid be sure to take all of the above into consideration, following these tips can help you find the most efficient and qualified maid available. Once you have found the maid suitable you can start to build a relationship with them and hopefully continue to use the same maid over and over again for professional cleaning, eliminating the need to go through this process again.

How can a carpet be effectively cleaned without using chemicals or potentially damaging machines ?

Types of Carpets

Until the 1950s carpets were most often made with cotton but nowadays, carpets can be made from numerous different types of material, so it can be overwhelming even thinking about getting new carpet! Thankfully, here at Premium Clean, we are experts on all the different types of carpets there are, from wearability to price to how to clean, and we have made this book for anyone who is thinking about purchasing a new carpet or wants to know more about their current carpet. First, we will look at the types of material carpets are made from. They can be natural carpets made from renewable materials, synthetic carpets made from manmade materials, or a mix of both. We will then take a look what the different options for the pile of the carpet are, and lastly, we will focus on the up keep up and cleaning of your carpets. Natural Carpets – these are carpets made from natural materials without the use of any manmade chemicals.

Wool Fabric

Wool is one of the more well-known types of natural material and a lot of people are aware that wool is made to make clothing, blankets, rugs and carpets. Wool carpets are most often made from the strands of a sheep’s woolly coat, but also can be made from goats’ fur and even (although less common), rabbits fur. Carpets made from a natural material can often be more high maintenance than synthetic carpets, and this does include wool carpets, but wool carpets are a timeless, popular choice for many reasons.  They provide excellent insulation which helps to keep your home nice and warm (without putting or keeping the heating on), they are hypoallergenic, so they are good for people with allergies and asthma, and they are fire and dirt resistant. Wool carpets can be expensive in comparison to some other types of carpets but if a wool carpet is well looked after and cleaned often, it will last a very long time so they can be well worth the extra pennies. If a wool carpet is not looked after properly, they can be prone to shedding which can become troublesome and cause the carpet to get thin and look worn. Wool carpets are very absorbent which means they do unfortunately absorb spillages quickly and can therefore be more prone to stain. They will also take longer than the average carpet to dry after a steam clean, we usually advise 8 to 24 hours, depending on the condition of the carpet before the clean – a cleaner carpet will dry more quickly. The plus side of being a very absorbent carpet is that they are a natural humidifier which means they will help your house to stay cooler on hot days as well as warmer on hot summer days. Unfortunately, a wool carpet can sometimes attract insects who will mistake the carpet for a live mammal, but thankfully infestations are unlikely as long the carpet is regularly vacuumed.

Sisal Fabric

Sisal is another type of natural, organic carpet. They are made from long, strong, tough fibres from a desert plant with spiky leaves called the agave sisalana plant which is native to hot countries such as America, Africa, and the Caribbean. The fibres are often woven into carpets and rugs, but Sisal is used to make a number of other things too such as bags and ropes. It is arguably one of the most durable types of natural carpet there are due to its rugged fibres and is a great option if you are looking for a low maintenance carpet as regular vacuuming will keep the carpet in good condition. Sisal is respected for its quality look and characteristic tan, beige and off-white shades (which it inherits from the plant it comes from). It is popular in its original colours as it will go with almost any interior decoration, but it can also be dyed or woven into stunning patterns. Some other advantages of a Sisal carpet are that they are non-toxic (which is great for anyone but particularly for allergy sufferers, people with eczema or asthma and children) they are also biodegradable, which is better for our planet, non-static and not highly flammable. However, Sisal is not the softest most luxurious type of carpet and can often feel quite rough underfoot and therefore not the best for overall comfort. They are super absorbent, which means they absorb spills quickly, are prone to water markings and take longer to dry after cleaning. Some manufacturers of Sisal carpet advise for the carpet to be treated with a polymer protector to shield it from stain, but if you do that, then you are conceding some of the carpets highest attributes as you would no longer have a fully natural carpet. The sisal on the stairs carpet cleaning service is a very common carpet to be used.

Jute Fabric

Jute also comes from a plant – the Corchorus plant, which flowers and grows in the wet, monsoon climates of countries such as Bangladesh and India. However, this time, it is made with the stalks of the plant instead of the leaves, using a unique weaving process which leaves you with of the smoothest natural fibres you will come across. Jute carpets have an extremely soft texture and are feel luxurious to walk on bare foot, with the little knots almost kneading your feet. You may think this would mean that they come with an expensive price tag, but Jute is actually one of cheaper types of natural carpet as the plant it comes from grows in abundance. It is exceptionally eco-friendly and also fully biodegradable so another great choice of carpet when keeping the environment in mind. Jute is best used for low traffic areas, such as bedrooms, because they are not hardwearing in comparison to other carpet types and raw Jute does not accept dye as well as some other types of carpet so tends to come in more neutral colours. Try to prevent getting a jute carpet wet, as much as possible, as water can release the natural oils from the carpet which can stain the carpet a brownish colour and if drenched, they are also susceptible to mould and mildew which can, unfortunately, destroy the carpet very quickly. You must also avoid scrubbing a jute rug or carpet as this can often cause irreparable damage and they are also prone to sun damage so they may not be the best choice if they are situated next to patio doors, where the sun comes through.

Cotton Fabric

As mentioned above, most carpets were made with cotton until the middle of last century. Cotton is an essential, almost silky fibre that is used for many different things, including almost every type of clothing, bedding, curtains, and of course, carpets. It grows in a case around the seeds of the cotton plant, which belongs to the mallow family, and is really quite astonishing to look at with its fluffy cotton wool ball type flowers. It is made into the fabric we use by discarding the seeds and interweaving the fibres into lengths, then spinning the lengths into threads which can then be dyed or mixed with other materials and made into a luxury carpet. Most of the world’s cotton comes from countries such as India, China, and The United States. Cotton carpets are best used for low traffic areas as they can wear quickly, and cotton can actually shrink when it gets wet through cleaning or even humid weather. Unfortunately, they can also be a magnet for dust which means they need more regular vacuuming that most other types of carpets and any spillages must be dealt with immediately to prevent long lasting stain as it is also a carpet with an absorbent nature. However, having said all this, they are extremely soft and comfortable carpets which come in a range of different colours and looks. Cotton is more often used in rugs than carpets but we think a cotton carpet can be a good choice for a child and pet free home.

Velvet Fabric

A velvet or velour carpet can also be known as a plush pile carpet. They are tremendously soft to touch, and the fibres are cut to an exact and equal level and then densely packed together, so the carpet feels cushioned and luxurious on your feet. Velvet carpets are more common in bedrooms than living rooms and almost never chosen for the stairs, hall or landing or other high use area. This is because they wear easily, and the soft fabric can become rough over time they are not taken car of. They can also show all kinds of marks, such as vacuum marks or footprints and they are also not the easiest carpet to remove stain from so if you have a velvet carpet, you need to look after it exceptionally well – they are definitely a ‘no shoes’ kind of carpet. Velvet carpets usually come with a hefty price tag, but are well worth it, if you can afford one due to their unique look and feel.

Once we have thoroughly cleaned the property for you, here are some of our top tips that will help with keeping the dust and mould away

  • Wash your bedding weekly – bed collects more dust than you realise, and we are supposed to spend 8 hours a night in our beds. If the bedding is not washed every week, you will be breathing in small particles of dust all night long – no wonder you will wake up with a snotty nose
  • Choose hypoallergenic bed covers, sheets, duvets and pillows which are specially designed to create an environment that allergens find it difficult to service in.
  • Remove dust from services (especially in the bedroom) as often as possible and wear a high quality face mask whilst doing so. There isn’t really any need to use products every time you do this. A slightly damp cloth will work wonders on its own.
  • Invest in a high quality hoover and vacuum carpets and upholstery regularly.
  • Invest in an air purifier – these can be expensive but can be worth every penny as they help to filter out most of the allergy irritants from the air and can even remove them from floors
    and furniture.
  • Use a dehumidifier in any areas where dust is prevalent. These remove the moisture from the air and new mould cannot grow without moisture.

We hope that these tips will help you and your family to live allergy free. Pease feel free to contact us at anytime at professional cleaning company in London for any more advice on removing allergens or to book an end-of-tenancy clean, carpet deep cleaning, office clean or with any of your other cleaning requirements.

How to clean your carpets using white vinegar

Removing carpet stain and odours from your carpets is made easier using white vinegar as a cleaner. As well as it being extremely easy to get hold of from most of your supermarkets and corner shops, being made of natural ingredients it is perfect to be used in households  with children, pets and allergy sufferers. So onto the carpet cleaning.

Whenever cleaning a carpet for the first time like with any products you should always complete a test patch first, this needs to be a patch of carpet that cannot be seen that you can test the cleaning process on to ensure that your carpet will not be damaged by the process. Usually inside of a cupboard or behind an item of furniture will be best suitable.

To complete the test, moisten a towel and dampen it with the white vinegar, apply directly to the carpet and let it sit there for a few minutes before blotting it up. Don’t rub it to remove it blot it.  After 24 hours have passed, return to the tested area and look for any colour change or fading and feel for any texture change between the tested area and an area that hasn’t been tested.

Stain Removal

White vinegar is particularly useful at removing Fresh stain from your carpet fibres. These spills and stain can include food spills, pet urine and feces, or just your everyday muddy footprints. It’s always best to tend to the stain as quickly after it has been caused as possible. This is to ensure that the spillage does not have a chance to set into the deeper fibres of the carpet, the longer that a stain is left the more the stain has a chance to bond with the fibres making it considerably more difficult to remove. So please tend to it as quickly as possible.

Any solid matter from the spill should be scooped up and any remaining liquid should be soaked up before the cleaning process is started, remember always blot any liquid up do not rub at it. This will cause the stained area to spread and you may end up with a bigger area to treat than to begin with. Always use colourless towels to clean the area, coloured towels could cause colour run and leave you with a stained carpet.

Once all the solid matter and liquid has been soaked up you can spray a 100% solution of white vinegar onto the stained area for a few minutes and then blot it up with a clean towel, repeat this process until the stain is no longer visible. Lastly, allow it to completely dry. You will be left with a strong odour of vinegar whilst the carpet is still wet, however once completely dry this should disappear. Due to the strong scent of the vinegar that will also eliminate any odours that may be present before the clean, leaving your carpet smelling fresh once the process is complete.

Using this method is perfect for in-between deep cleans and for attacking spills quickly. It’s so simple that anyone can complete this cleaning process meaning that you don’t have to call a professional carpet cleaner every time something is spilled. White vinegar is alway a useful item to have stocked in your kitchen cupboard, for many reasons.

Things You Need To Know About Stain Protection For Carpets And Upholstery

Carpet and Upholstery Stain Protection: Benefits, Types, and Tips

Carpets and upholstery are integral components of our homes and offices, adding warmth, comfort, and aesthetic appeal to our spaces. However, they are also prone to stain and spills, which can detract from their appearance and longevity. Stain protection is a crucial aspect of maintaining these items, ensuring they remain clean and attractive for years to come. This article delves into the essentials of stain protection for carpets and upholstery, exploring the benefits, types of protectors, application methods, and maintenance tips.

The Importance of Stain Protection

Stain protection is not just about keeping your carpets and upholstery looking pristine; it also plays a significant role in extending their lifespan. Fabrics and fibers can absorb liquids and dirt, leading to permanent stain and deterioration over time. By applying a carpet stain protector, you create a barrier that repels spills and prevents them from penetrating the fibres. This not only makes cleaning easier but also reduces the risk of damage, saving you money on replacements and repairs in the long run.

Moreover, stain protection can enhance the overall hygiene of your living or working environment. Carpets and upholstery can harbor allergens, bacteria, and dust mites, which can affect indoor air quality and trigger allergies or respiratory issues. A good stain protector helps to prevent these contaminants from settling into the fibers, making it easier to maintain a clean and healthy space.

Types of Stain Protectors

There are several types of stain protectors available on the market, each with its own set of advantages and applications. Understanding these options can help you choose the right product for your needs.

  1. Fluorochemical Protectors: These are among the most popular and effective stain protectors. They work by creating a thin, invisible layer on the surface of the fibers, which repels water and oil-based stain. Fluorochemical protectors are versatile and can be used on a wide range of fabrics, making them a popular choice for both carpets and upholstery.
  2. Silicone-Based Protectors: Silicone-based products are known for their water-repellent properties. They form a protective layer that prevents liquids from soaking into the fibers. However, they may not be as effective against oil-based stain and can sometimes alter the texture of the fabric, making it feel slightly stiffer.
  3. Acrylic-Based Protectors: These protectors are often used for upholstery and are known for their durability. They provide a strong barrier against stain and are resistant to wear and tear. Acrylic-based protectors are particularly useful for high-traffic areas where the fabric is subject to frequent use.
  4. Natural and Eco-Friendly Protectors: With growing environmental awareness, many manufacturers now offer natural and eco-friendly stain protectors. These products are made from biodegradable ingredients and are free from harsh chemicals, making them a safer choice for homes with children and pets.

Application Methods

Applying stain protection to carpets and upholstery can be done in several ways, depending on the type of protector and the fabric involved. Here are some common methods:

  1. Professional Application: Hiring a professional to apply stain protection ensures that the product is applied evenly and effectively. Professional carpet cleaners have the expertise and equipment to handle different types of fabrics and protectors, ensuring optimal results. This method is particularly recommended for large areas or valuable items that require special care.
  2. DIY Application: Many stain protectors are available in spray form, allowing for easy DIY application. When applying a protector yourself, it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Ensure the area is well-ventilated, and test the product on a small, inconspicuous area first to check for any adverse reactions.
  3. In-Factory Treatment: Some carpets and upholstery come with built-in stain protection, applied during the manufacturing process. This treatment is often more durable and long-lasting than after-market applications. However, it may still require periodic reapplication, especially in high-traffic areas.

Maintenance and Care

Even with stain protection, regular maintenance is essential to keep your carpets and upholstery looking their best. Here are some tips to help you maintain your protected items:

  1. Regular Vacuuming: Vacuuming is crucial for removing dirt and debris that can wear down fibers and reduce the effectiveness of stain protection. Aim to vacuum carpets at least once a week and upholstery every two weeks, using the appropriate attachments for different surfaces.
  2. Prompt Spill Cleanup: While stain protectors provide a barrier against spills, it’s important to clean up any accidents promptly. Blot the spill with a clean, absorbent cloth, working from the outside in to prevent spreading. Avoid rubbing, as this can push the stain deeper into the fibers.
  3. Periodic Deep Cleaning: Over time, dirt and grime can build up, even on protected surfaces. Schedule periodic deep cleaning to remove embedded dirt and refresh the stain protection. This can be done professionally or with a rented carpet cleaner, depending on your preference and budget.
  4. Reapplication of Stain Protector: Stain protection is not permanent and may wear off over time, especially in high-traffic areas. Reapply the protector as recommended by the manufacturer, typically every 12 to 18 months, to maintain its effectiveness.

Choosing the Right Stain Protector

Selecting the right stain protector for your carpets and upholstery involves considering several factors, including the type of fabric, the level of use, and any specific concerns you may have, such as allergies or environmental impact.

  1. Fabric Type: Different fabrics have different needs when it comes to stain protection. Delicate fabrics like silk or wool may require a specialized protector, while synthetic fibers like polyester or nylon can often handle a broader range of products.
  2. Usage Level: Consider how much use your carpets and upholstery receive. High-traffic areas or items that are frequently used, such as living room sofas or office chairs, may benefit from a more robust protector that offers enhanced durability.
  3. Environmental Concerns: If you’re concerned about the environmental impact of stain protectors, look for products that are labeled as eco-friendly or biodegradable. These products are designed to minimize harm to the environment while still providing effective protection.
  4. Allergies and Sensitivities: For households with allergy sufferers or sensitive individuals, it’s important to choose a stain protector that is free from harsh chemicals and allergens. Look for hypoallergenic options that are safe for use around children and pets.

Common Myths About Stain Protection

There are several misconceptions about stain protection that can lead to confusion or improper use. Let’s address some of these myths:

  1. Myth: Stain Protection Makes Fabrics Waterproof: While stain protectors create a barrier against spills, they do not make fabrics completely waterproof. Liquids can still penetrate if left for extended periods, so prompt cleanup is essential.
  2. Myth: Stain Protection is Permanent: Stain protection is not a one-time solution. It wears off over time due to use, cleaning, and exposure to the elements. Regular reapplication is necessary to maintain its effectiveness.
  3. Myth: Stain Protectors Alter Fabric Appearance: High-quality stain protectors are designed to be invisible and should not alter the appearance or feel of the fabric. However, it’s always a good idea to test the product on a small area first.
  4. Myth: All Stain Protectors are the Same: There is a wide variety of stain protectors available, each with different formulations and intended uses. It’s important to choose the right product for your specific needs and fabric type.

Stain protection is an invaluable tool in preserving the beauty and longevity of your carpets and upholstery. By understanding the different types of protectors, application methods, and maintenance tips, you can ensure that your fabrics remain clean, attractive, and durable. Whether you opt for professional application or a DIY approach, investing in stain protection is a wise decision that pays off in the long run. Remember to choose the right product for your needs, and don’t forget the importance of regular maintenance to keep your protected items looking their best.

How to Get Your Deposit Back: End of Tenancy Cleaning Guide

Moving out of a rented property can be a stressful experience, especially when it comes to ensuring the return of your security deposit. One of the most crucial aspects of this process is end-of-tenancy cleaning. Understanding the Importance of End of Tenancy Cleaning

End of tenancy cleaning is a comprehensive cleaning process that ensures a rental property is returned to its original state, or as close to it as possible. This type of cleaning goes beyond regular housekeeping and involves deep cleaning tasks that may not be part of your routine cleaning schedule. The importance of end-of-tenancy cleaning cannot be overstated, as it directly impacts the return of your security deposit.

Landlords and letting agents expect the property to be in a condition that is ready for the next tenant. This means that every nook and cranny should be spotless, and any signs of wear and tear should be addressed. A thorough cleaning not only helps in getting your deposit back but also maintains a good relationship with your landlord, which can be beneficial for future references.

Planning Your End of Tenancy Cleaning

The first step in securing your deposit return is to plan your end-of-tenancy cleaning well in advance. Start by reviewing your tenancy agreement to understand the specific cleaning requirements set by your landlord or letting agent. Some agreements may have detailed checklists, while others might simply state that the property should be left in a “clean and tidy” condition.

Once you have a clear understanding of the expectations, create a cleaning schedule that allows you to tackle different areas of the property systematically. Consider the size of the property, the number of rooms, and the level of cleaning required. Allocate sufficient time for each task, and if possible, enlist the help of family or friends to make the process more manageable.

Deciding Between DIY and Professional Cleaning

One of the key decisions you’ll need to make is whether to handle the cleaning yourself or hire a professional cleaning service. Both options have their pros and cons, and the choice largely depends on your budget, time constraints, and the condition of the property.

DIY Cleaning

If you decide to go the DIY route, you’ll need to be prepared to invest a significant amount of time and effort. DIY cleaning can be cost-effective, especially if you already have the necessary cleaning supplies. However, it requires meticulous attention to detail and a thorough understanding of what needs to be done.

To ensure a successful DIY cleaning, create a detailed checklist that covers all areas of the property. This should include tasks such as cleaning carpets, washing windows, scrubbing bathrooms, and wiping down kitchen appliances. Make sure to use appropriate cleaning products for different surfaces to avoid damage.

Professional End of Tenancy Cleaning London

Hiring a professional cleaning service can be a worthwhile investment, especially if you’re short on time or if the property requires extensive cleaning. Professional cleaners have the expertise and equipment to tackle even the toughest cleaning challenges, ensuring that the property meets the required standards.

When choosing a cleaning service, look for companies that specialize in end-of-tenancy cleaning. Check reviews and ask for recommendations to find a reputable service provider. While professional cleaning can be more expensive, it often comes with a guarantee, providing peace of mind that the job will be done to a high standard.

Key Areas to Focus On

Whether you choose to clean the property yourself or hire professionals, there are certain areas that require special attention during end-of-tenancy cleaning. These areas are often the most scrutinized by landlords and letting agents, and neglecting them can lead to deductions from your deposit.

Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most important areas to focus on during end-of-tenancy cleaning. Start by cleaning all appliances, including the oven, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher. Remove any food residues, grease, and grime, and ensure that all surfaces are spotless. Don’t forget to clean the inside of cupboards and drawers, as well as the sink and taps.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are another critical area that requires thorough cleaning. Scrub the toilet, sink, shower, and bathtub to remove any stain and limescale. Clean the tiles and grout, and ensure that mirrors and glass surfaces are streak-free. Pay attention to any mold or mildew, as these are common issues that can lead to deductions.

Carpets and Flooring

Carpets and flooring should be cleaned to remove any dirt, stain, or odours. Vacuum all carpets thoroughly, and consider hiring a carpet cleaner for deep cleaning if necessary. For hard floors, sweep and mop to ensure they are free of dust and grime. Pay special attention to corners and edges, where dirt tends to accumulate.

Windows and Walls

Clean all windows inside and out, ensuring that they are free of streaks and smudges. Dust and wipe down window sills and frames. Check the walls for any marks or scuffs, and clean them as needed. If there are any holes or damage, consider patching them up to avoid deductions.

General Cleaning

In addition to the specific areas mentioned above, general cleaning tasks should not be overlooked. Dust and wipe down all surfaces, including skirting boards, light fixtures, and switches. Remove any cobwebs and ensure that all rooms are free of clutter. Don’t forget to check less obvious areas, such as behind furniture and under beds.

Documenting the Condition of the Property

Before you begin the cleaning process, it’s important to document the condition of the property. Take detailed photographs of each room, focusing on any existing damage or areas that may be subject to scrutiny. This documentation can serve as evidence in case of any disputes with your landlord or letting agent regarding the return of your deposit.

Once the cleaning is complete, take another set of photographs to show the property’s condition after cleaning. This will provide a clear before-and-after comparison, demonstrating that you have fulfilled your obligations as a tenant.

Conducting a Final Inspection

After completing the end-of-tenancy cleaning, conduct a final inspection of the property to ensure that nothing has been overlooked. Walk through each room with your checklist and verify that all tasks have been completed to a high standard. Pay attention to any areas that may require a final touch-up.

If possible, arrange for your landlord or letting agent to conduct a walkthrough inspection with you. This provides an opportunity to address any concerns they may have and to rectify any issues on the spot. A successful final inspection can significantly increase the likelihood of receiving your full deposit back.

Handling Disputes and Deductions

Despite your best efforts, there may be instances where your landlord or letting agent disputes the condition of the property or proposes deductions from your deposit. In such cases, it’s important to remain calm and address the situation professionally.

Start by reviewing the documentation you prepared before and after the cleaning. Use this evidence to support your case and demonstrate that you have met the required standards. If necessary, refer to your tenancy agreement to clarify any specific cleaning obligations. If a resolution cannot be reached, you may need to escalate the matter to a tenancy deposit protection scheme or a relevant dispute resolution service. These organizations can provide impartial mediation and help resolve disputes fairly.

Securing the return of your deposit at the end of a tenancy requires careful planning and execution of a thorough cleaning process. By understanding the importance of end-of-tenancy cleaning, deciding between DIY and professional cleaning, focusing on key areas, and documenting the property’s condition, you can significantly increase your chances of receiving your full deposit back. Remember to conduct a final inspection and handle any disputes professionally to ensure a smooth and successful end to your tenancy.

Using a Broom sweep over the entire area.

This isn’t to remove the dirt particles so don’t worry about piling it up, just simply sweep over the entire carpet to loosen some of the dirt particles that have got stuck to the carpet’s fibres. This will make the dirt easier to remove later on in the cleaning process.

Once you have swept the entire carpet and are happy that the dirt particles are now all loosened from  the fibres, begin to vacuum the carpet thoroughly. Vacuum until you are certain that all loose dirt debris and any pet hair has been removed from the carpet.

Mix in some Bleach-Free mild washing up liquid. Always be certain to check that it is mild and Bleach Free; this is very important to be sure of. You only need to mix in enough to make the mixture slightly bubbly, you don’t want to make it too bubbly as this will take longer to remove the mixture from the carpet later on. A couple of droplets should be sufficient.

Using a soft bristled brush or a clean sponge dip into the solution and begin to gently scrub into the carpet.

It is best to work in small sections growing as you go. This ensures that you don’t miss any sections and also keeps the clean manageable.  Once you have completed stage 5 and have covered the entire carpet, using a vacuum preferably a wet/dry vacuum, Vacuum over the carpet to pick up any excess moisture and soapy suds that may be left in the carpet fibres.

Now you are ready to begin the drying process, all carpets will vary and this will all depend on the type of carpet that it is, the thickness of the pile, the air flow of the room and temperature of the room.

The best way to dry the carpet as quickly as possible is to ensure that you have as many windows open as possible and for as long as possible. Sometimes even fans can help as they help to circulate the air in the room giving a constant flow of air.

Before you allow the carpets to completely dry, once the carpet is at a slightly  damp stage, sprinkle some baking soda over the carpet.  Spread the baking soda liberally this will help to draw out any moisture and also absorb any remaining odours that may have not come out during the cleaning process.

Leave the baking soda overnight and vacuum up in the morning. You should be left with clean, fresh smelling carpets. This is the easiest method of cleaning  yourself at home without the risk of causing damage with harsh cleaning products, also without the cost of a professional cleaning team and their high tech cleaning machines. Although it can take some time it is a brilliant way to achieve a clean carpet without the cost.

Why does cat urine smell so unpleasant?

Cat urine is not so different from that of other animals, but farmers often consider it to be one of the biggest threats to the carpet. It may be due to the fact that it often goes unnoticed, but rather suffocating (because of the horrible smell). This is why it is known among the population as one of the most severe odours. This also requires a very thoughtful decision to keep small, sweet and defenceless kittens indoors.

Urine in its essence, is a concentrate of metabolic waste. It is characterised by a yellowish colour, which is the length of urobilinogen content. It also includes a number of electrolytes, such as urea, creatine, uric acid, various detoxified substances, sodium chloride and others.

One of the most annoying things that could happen in your home is not to notice the areas that the cats have marked. Although the typical yellowish colour of urine is often paler and dries almost imperceptibly on the carpet. This is a pretty big problem, since the longer it stays in the pad the bigger is the problem.

After a while, the bacteria breaks down the urea and releases an ammonia odour. The decomposition does not stop here because it also follows the separation of the mercaptans compound, which also contributes to the horrible smell. In general, you already know the composition and what happens during the decomposition process, but there are several additional factors contributing to the bad odour. Both the human and the cat’s organism are different. Male and older cats release urine that is less odourless due to the presence of certain steroids.

Why is it difficult to eliminate cats urine from carpet?

The carpet is the most difficult cleaning surface in general. In the case of cleaning the urine, things become even more complicated. With the penetration of urine in the carpet this is damaging the surface, threads and backing. Waiting for your urine to go deep creates even greatest difficulties and no matter what approach you take, you need to take care of each layer of carpet.

One of the biggest mistakes of most households is that they only clean the surface of the carpet without knowing what is going on down the mat. This is a pretty big misconception, though most packaging for cleaning products do the same in the instructions of use. Remember that the most important thing is to clean the carpet completely. If you can’t handle it, there are many reputable companies out there to help you.

Sometimes fresh spots are difficult to detect, but try to treat them as soon as possible. Even if you see a very small puddle, absorb it with a towel. It is best then to use a vacuum cleaner or steam cleaner if you have one at home.

Dry spots

These can be treated instantly with the right product. To do this, you could start with a home remedy and as a last resort, aim for an effective certified product with enzymes or combination ingredients. Test this product to ensure it is safe. This will prevent discolouration and damage to the pad. It is important that the stain and odours are removed in the most appropriate and delicate way.

Methods for Cleaning Carpet in London with Dried Cat Urine

Method 1: Cleaning with Vinegar and Water

Prepare a solution of white vinegar and water in equal quantities and fill the quantity in a spray bottle. Apply directly to the stain until moistened enough, but not soaked. Wait about 30 minutes for it to work. Then try to remove as much as possible from the contamination. Vinegar has the ability to absorb terrible odours, but you may need to repeat the process two or three times.

Method 2: Cleaning with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda

This technique is applicable at two different stages of cleaning – as a standalone and initial method, as well as after treatment with vinegar and water.

Start by sprinkling bread soda liberally and let it work. Then mix 1/4 cup peroxide with 1 tsp. tea ware for dishes. It is important to know that the acceptable hydrogen peroxide is only 3%. The resulting mixture may be spread directly on the baking soda. Take a toothbrush and rub the dirt. Once dry, clean the debris.

Method 3: Cleaning with sparkling water

This technology is recommended for cleaning fresh stain. A very good alternative to vinegar or the other methods. This can save you messing around with your home or the smell of vinegar for a while. All you have to do is just pour the soda water on the stain. Then rub the area with a cloth. If you do not achieve satisfactory results, repeat the process.

Method 4: Use of commercial products

There is a wide availability of commercial products on the market. They are a great solution if you have not been able to deal with cat urine on your carpet by other methods. They include a specific enzyme reaction – urea hydrolysis. For those unfamiliar these enzymes are proteins that accelerate chemical reactions.

They are capable of breaking down cat urine, but you need to act quickly. Keep in mind that these products have one major drawback – they have a very short shelf life, as enzymes lose their effectiveness over time.

  • Enzyme treatments – Check out the options available at retailers and specialist stores. They eliminate odours and eliminate that horrible vinegar smell. You may need to repeat the treatment several times, but it should not scare you – preparations are completely safe for most fibres and are highly effective.
  • Combined Products – there are some products designed to deal with cat urine, which include enzymes as well as genetically modified bacteria. They are also among the top products you could use.
  • Oxygen Cleaners – these are the third type of products that are a great solution for recent spots. Be sure to test them on a small part before using them on the entire carpet.
  • General cleaning – If you have not found an effective way to neutralise cat urine by now, consider thorough deep cleaning. It includes vacuum, the use of special machines, shampoos, etc. It is best to entrust this task to carpet cleaning London professionals. They have the right equipment and will find the best solution for your carpet.

How to neutralise cat urine smell and remove stain from the carpet?

Dried urine stain on the carpet is something that almost every cat owner encounters. The yellowish hues and the horrible smell that can cover your entire home is a real nightmare. If you are in this situation, you should follow the instructions for eliminating urine odour from the fluffy carpet:

  • The first step is to detect the problem. Darken the room. Then scan the length and width of the entire carpet with a flashlight. In places where you see shiny particles, there is a  spot.
  • Make a solution of equal amounts of white vinegar and water (this method, and several others are described above). This mixture should be well spilled all over the stain. If you think you missed a section, moisten it and let it stand on the carpet for a while so it can get the dirt and smell out of it. The recommended time is at least 30 minutes.
  • After waiting 30 minutes or more, rub the stain with clean white towels or rags. Do not stop until you remove all of the yellow liquid. Replace towels frequently for better results, when moistened.
  • Sprinkle baking soda on the stain of a thin layer and wait a few minutes while continuing to prepare the substance mix.
  • Mix 1/4 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide and 1 tsp. faith. This tool works very well with most types of fibre, but still try it in advance at a very small corner of the carpet.
  • Pour the resulting mixture directly onto the baking soda. The combination of all these components is quite powerful against this type of spoilage.
  • Use appropriate brush tissue to rub the affected area – the mixture should penetrate deep into the mat. Then let it dry for several hours. Thoroughly clean the  carpet after.
  • Put the carpet in the washing machine if it is small in size. Add one cup of white vinegar to the softener container. It will serve to eliminate odours. If it is a large carpet, you should consider deep hygiene (individually or professionally)
  • Dry the carpet outdoors without putting it on the wire or in your home with the windows open and without allowing pets on the carpet.

Preventing your cat from re-doing it

Every cat owner is looking for appropriate measures to prevent the situation from happening again. The most important thing first is to make sure you have managed to counteract all the odours. However, this will not teach the cat that it is not allowed to re-mark the area.

You need to be very strict and take some steps to teach the cat that there is a special place for this purpose. Also, contact a veterinarian for guidance. Take your cat to see him and explain the situation. There may be some health issues and urinary infections.

Another trick for preventing your carpet from re-urinating is to change the importance of this area for your cat. For example, they like to be alone while eating, the place to play with their landlord, etc. It is these places that the kitten marks and uses as a toilet. It can acquire another purpose for them and stop damaging them. Put their food bowl or her favourite toys there.

Here are a few of the best methods for different types of stubborn stain and spills:

Greasy stain:

Some stain are going to be a lot harder to remove than others, stain that contain grease are going to require a little more effort to bring up.

  1. Before applying anything to the stained area use some paper towel to blot up as much of the grease from the stain as possible. It is very important to blot the stained area DO NOT rub the area as this will just cause the grease to spread and the affected area will grow into an even bigger problem and can end up causing the grease to seep deeping into the carpet fibre.
  2. Once the blotting stage is complete and you believe you’ve removed as much of the grease as possible, you need to sprinkle some dry baking soda onto the stained area and allow it to sit overnight, you’ll find the longer that you leave the baking soda down the more grease it will be able to absorb.
  3. The following morning you need to vacuum the area thoroughly then determine whether you need to do anything further. If the stain remains you can take a small amount of fairy liquid and again begin to blot the stain to reduce further amounts of grease Do NOT rub, this will cause spreading, then get some clean water and fresh paper towels and slowly blot to remove the soapy residue.
  4. Once all of the soapy residue is removed, dry the area until it is slightly damp and proceed to sprinkle another layer of baking soda onto the stain, leave again for a further 3 hours, then vacuum the area thoroughly again. You should find that the area is fresh once again and the stain completely removed.
