Our carpet cleaning technicians have undertaken many courses, and are able to recognise the type of material your carpet, rug or upholstery is made from, using a special technique which involves burning a small piece of fabric taken from somewhere where it is 100% unnoticeable. Usually there will be a loose bit on stairs or in a corner of a room for the carpet. For a sofa, we will take a tiny piece from inside the cushion area. Once they have started to burn the small piece of fabric, our technicians will smell and feel the fabric to determine what it is made from. The most important thing to determine is whether your carpet or sofa is made from natural material or synthetic materials as we use different products, methods and temperatures depending on which you have. For synthetic material such as Nylon and Polyester, we can use higher temperatures on our steaming machines, and we can use stronger products which have a higher pH level. This will ensure an extremely deep and thorough clean. For natural materials such as wool, which is becoming a more popular choice at the moment, we use lower temperatures and more delicate products with a lower pH level to avoid any damage being done to your carpet and instead of using machines, we occasionally need to clean by hand if it’s what the carpet requires. Sometimes, we find the carpet is a mix of synthetic and natural materials and in these cases, we will treat the carpet though it is made from natural material.
